Google Boosts AI Firm Anthropic

After the launch of Chatgpt and Microsoft’s investment in Openai, the artificial intelligence (AI) competition is heating up. Another startup company, Anthropic, has entered the artificial intelligence market, further expanding the list of lineups.

According to reports, Google Cloud invested $300 million in Anthropic. This followed the startup receiving more than $500 million in funding from Sam Bankman-Fried, a former CEO of FTX, roughly half a year prior to the demise of FTX.

On February 4th, the Financial Times reported the $300 million investment by Google Cloud into Anthropic. The same day, Anthropic confirmed its partnership with Google Cloud but declined to disclose any specific details regarding the amount invested.

According to Anthropic CEO, Dario Amodei, the company is partnering with Google Cloud to aid in their plans to expand the reach of their AI systems to a wider audience. Anthropic has made it their mission to create and implement Claude, an AI assistant, that is built on the company’s research into developing secure and manageable AI. To achieve this goal, Anthropic has devised methods such as Constitutional AI to create AI technologies that are more dependable and comprehensible.

Anthropic Ties To FTX Co-Founder Sam Bankman-Fried

Anthropic received funding from Sam Bankman-Fried, a former co-founder of FTX, in April 2022. Alameda Research, owned by Bankman-Fried, is the largest investor in the AI startup, having invested $500 million.

A creditor of FTX estimates that Bankman-Fried’s investment in the AI company could reach as much as $1.1 billion. There is speculation among other members of the cryptocurrency social media community regarding whether Bankman-Fried’s ownership will be utilized to settle the substantial amount of debt that FTX has accumulated as a result of recent controversies. The bankruptcy estate of FTX has identified Anthropic as a potential asset for aiding creditors in their recovery efforts.
Meanwhile, John Ray, the current CEO of FTX, believes that it may be possible to revive the exchange. He has stated that they are actively working on restarting the cryptocurrency exchange, FTX.com. According to Ray, stakeholders believe that the exchange has the potential to run a feasible business and that there is the possibility of a fresh start for the platform.
