Stephen K. Bannon former chief strategist to US President Donald Trump, said in an interview that he was interested in cryptocurrencies and he is planning to enter the market. Mr. Bannon is the co-founder of Breitbart News, as well, and has been following the crypto market very closely.

Stephen Bannon Supports Cryptos

During an interview with The New York Times, Bannon held important meetings with cryptocurrency investors, initial coin offerings (ICOs) and other experts in the crypto-field. Apparently, he wants to issue an ICO using his investment firm known as Bannon & Company.

Of course, he did not disclose any comment about the plans that he has because his reputation could hurt his project and the future success of it. According to the Times, Mr. Bannon has an important amount of Bitcoin saved and has been working with Trump’s administration until August 2017.

Bannon is also very excited about countries issuing their own cryptocurrencies. During the interview he said:

“It was pretty obvious to me that unless you got somehow control over your currency, all these political movements were going to be beholden to who controlled the currency.”

At the same time, cryptocurrencies allow citizens to be really independent from banks and governments. Indeed, in the past, he had the idea to create its own cryptocurrency known as the ‘deplorables coin,’ related to what Hillary Clinton said during the political campaign against Trump’s team.

“Control of the currency is control of everything,” says Mr. Bannon. “It’s disruptive populism. It takes control back from central authorities. It’s revolutionary.”

Of course, he is not the only supporter of virtual currencies in the political arena. There are important politicians that have been embracing cryptos.

For example, John McAfee, which is a recognized investor and supporter of the crypto world, has decided to run for the presidency in 2020. He said that he will be including all the cryptocurrencies as possible to its government, including teams that are working in order to offer different health care services.

At the moment, Steve Bannon did not confirm whether he is returning to the political arena or not.
