There’s so much happening on a daily basis in the cryptosphere that you won’t be frowned upon for turning to Twitter to stay up to date with the latest happenings. It’s no denying that the Twittersphere is closely linked to most of the events of the every-growing crypto market and that following crypto influencers on the said platform can be very illuminating.

Of course, nowadays the term “crypto influencer” seems to be a bit abused on Twitter, as most people who barely have experience in the space like to use it in their bio. That is why we’ve created a list of some of the top cryptocurrency influencers on Twitter, alongside short descriptions about what type of content they usually post.

Vitalik Buterin

When it comes to popularity and influence in the crypto space, there are few who could even rival Vitalik Buterin, the legendary Russian-Canadian writer, and creator behind the second-most valued cryptocurrency, Ethereum.

Buterin is one of those classic examples that prove that geniuses are not reliant on the classical educational systems, he himself being a college dropout. Vitalik has been involved in the Bitcoin/cryptocurrency world since 2011 when he was actually writing articles for Bitcoin magazine.

At the end of 2013, Vitalik Buterin “painted out” his idea of Ethereum on a white paper, which found its way to a few of his close friends. In a short while, more than 30 people showed interest in Vitalik’s project. Hence, in January 2014, the core team comprised out of Vitalik Buterin, Mihai Alisie, Anthony Di Iorio, Charles Hoskinson, Joe Lubin, and Gavin Wood publicly announced Ethereum.

The “boy wonder” has gained a tremendous reputation on Twitter, where he usually expresses his concerns or opinions in regards to various aspects of blockchain projects and blockchain in general. He’s also what you might call “a good guy,” since he isn’t at all afraid about calling out fraudulent projects or platforms and he usually offers valid advice to the community. Other noteworthy tweets include discussions about scalability, security, ICOs, dApps, etc.

At the time of this writing, Vitalik “Not giving away ETH” Buterin had 6,928 tweets, and 785,000 followers on Twitter.

Charlie Lee

Next on our list is the creator of the Litecoin cryptocurrency, Charlie Lee, also known as “Satoshi Lite.” Lee is also the ex-director of Engineering at Coinbase, so it’s not hard to imagine that his insights on Bitcoin, the blockchain ecosystem, or problems such as scalability, forks, atomic swaps can be quite inspiring.

He also has a reputation of being quite humorous about some industry detractors. Another interesting fact about Charlie Lee is that, in late 2017, he sold and donated his entire stash of Litecoin, just to prove critics wrong about him allegedly using his notoriety to influence the market. Currently, Charlie Lee [LTC] has 12,000 tweets and a total number of 782,000 followers on Twitter, making him one of the most respected and beloved figures in the cryptosphere.

Riccardo Spagni

Anyone can tell that Riccardo, the creator of the infamous Monero cryptocurrency, has a great sense of humor just by reading his Twitter handle. This character trait can be easily viewed in his tweets as well. Be that as it may, Riccardo’s tweets are also informative as he’s constantly grabbing the attention of the global cryptocurrency and blockchain community.

As expected, he tweets a lot about Monero and Bitcoin, especially about the whole scalability mishaps and problems. Riccardo “Fluffy Pony” Spagni currently has 22,900 tweets and close to 63,400 followers on Twitter.

His tweets are usually nothing short of insightful, with philosophical, social, political, and technical approaches towards most blockchain, Bitcoin, or Lightning networks aspects. Just like some of the best crypto influencers on Twitter, Jameson Lopp also tweets about scam awareness from time to time.

His total number of tweets is somewhere around the 21,300 mark and has 168,000 followers on Twitter, even though he hasn’t been all that active lately.

Andreas M. Antonopoulos is one of the biggest names associated with the subject of Bitcoin and open-blockchains. The best-selling author, speaker, and educator has one mission and one mission only: to spread awareness about what is possibly the greatest invention after the Internet – Bitcoin.

As expected, scam awareness, Bitcoin scalability, and Bitcoin basics are the subjects of some of his best tweets. John McAfee

John McAfee is a British-American cybersecurity specialist and businessman and also the creator of one of the biggest antivirus companies to date. This is where most people run out of normal things to say about John McAfee, because the man is nothing short of a legend. If you were to read about his incredible life, you would most probably think that it’s actually the plotline of a very strange action movie. He caught the attention of the crypto community even more after famously promising to eat his penis on national television if Bitcoin doesn’t hit $500,00 per coin by 2020. He currently has 845,000 followers on Twitter and a total number of 17,900 tweets.

If you’re interested in the whole economic situation behind Bitcoin, then you can’t really go wrong with following Trace Mayer, one of BTC’s original gurus. The veteran investor was one of the first ones who started recommending Bitcoin when it first launched back in 2011.

Considering he holds degrees in accounting and law, it’s not surprising that his tweets are mostly about economics. He’s also a very adamant defender of the freedom of speech. Trace Mayer has 1,300 tweets and 46,700 followers on Twitter.
