Australia’s financial intelligence agency has ordered a major crypto ATMs operator to shut down its entire machine network. AUSTRAC suspended Cryptolink Pty Ltd’s registration for three months, Mirage News reported on August 10, blocking the company from running its 96 cash-to-crypto kiosks across the country.
AUSTRAC CEO Brendan Thomas said the agency still has concerns about how Cryptolink manages high-risk transactions through its terminals.
AUSTRAC Cites Repeated Reporting Failures
Cryptolink had already been under an enforceable undertaking since October 2025, after AUSTRAC’s Crypto Taskforce flagged late reporting of threshold transactions and gaps in the company’s anti-money laundering risk assessments.
The regulator also issued a $56,340 infringement notice at the time, which Cryptolink paid in full, a penalty first detailed in ABC News Australia’s coverage of the crackdown.
Thomas told Mirage News on August 10 that Cryptolink met the terms of that undertaking but then missed basic reporting obligations again, particularly threshold transaction reports. “The company failed to submit these required reports or respond to AUSTRAC’s request for information, thus we’ve deemed it too high risk to continue operating at present,” he said.
The suspension follows nearly two years of supervisory engagement with crypto ATM operators that AUSTRAC’s Crypto Taskforce began in late 2024, where regulators overseas have taken a similarly hard line on cash-based crypto kiosks.
Where the Suspension Goes Next
AUSTRAC has not said whether Cryptolink will regain its registration once the three months end. Thomas said the agency will keep watching the company for compliance during the suspension, and that AUSTRAC’s Crypto Taskforce is now focused on the highest-risk operators in the sector rather than routine reviews.
The next signal to watch is whether AUSTRAC lifts, extends, or permanently revokes the registration when the suspension expires in November.
