After we recently reported that two athletes and one pop star were in line to launch their celebrity tokens, now another celeb is planning to start her digital coin. The celebrity is Caroline Wozniacki, the world number two tennis professional.
Now fans of the Danish superstar will have the chance to trade the tokens for various exclusive perks. The crypto coin will be issued through Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX), a celebrity blockchain platform.
More Celebrities Seem Interested With The Idea Of Personal Tokens
GCOX plans to issue celebrity tokens and in the process create a form of popularity index for the celebrities that are involved. Wozniacki now joins boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, football star Michael Owen and pop star Jason Derulo in the waiting list to be tokenized.
The startup’s idea is to offer fans an exchange where they will get to swap (ACM), the platform’s token for various celebrity tokens that will be on offer. They can then use these coins to buy exclusive gifts directly from the superstars.
According to the platform, some of the rewards for fans will be; pay-per-view streaming, interactive sessions and meet and greet sessions.
Also, there will be an auction service where fans and the celebrities will get to sell appropriate items, and in return, they will be rewarded with the celebrity’s personalized token.
Speaking on the imminent launch of celebrity tokens, Jeffrey Lin, the CEO of GCOXÂ said:
“If everything goes well, the first quarter of 2019 will be the first celebrity token, and it could be Michael’s, it could be Manny’s, I am not sure yet.”
The platform will also serve as a popularity index for the celebrities who are involved. Most probably this will be achieved through market capitalization.
The founders of the platform believe that by involving individuals from popular culture, they will encourage more people to embrace the idea of a token economy.
However, as it is with ideas of many other blockchain companies, tokenizing celebrities in the way GCOX is proposing seems a bit far-fetched. For now, we will have to wait and see how that will go.
