The Celo Foundation has formed a collaboration with Google Cloud to facilitate the implementation of mission-aligned initiatives in the Celo blockchain ecosystem and promote the early adoption of Google Cloud services. The partnership will enable Celo founders to obtain credits for Google Cloud and Firebase usage, ultimately enhancing Celo’s mobile-first infrastructure and decentralized applications (DApps).
Google’s Firebase is a web and mobile application development platform that provides developers with a variety of tools and services for creating apps, such as authentication, real-time databases, cloud storage, and messaging.
The Google Cloud team will also participate in the virtual Celo Camp accelerator program, which aids in creating firms that are focused on sustainability and will mentor and advise the Celo Foundation’s Founders in Residence program, according to the announcement. The two organizations also want to jointly offer targeted workshops and events centered on Web3 innovation and sustainability.
According to Xochitl Cazador, the head of ecosystem growth at the Celo Foundation, the strengthened partnership between Google and the Celo Foundation amplifies the capacity for both entities to jointly promote broader awareness of blockchain technology and its capability to scale real-world applications on Celo.
Furthermore, Cazador elaborated that the core team of Google Cloud will extend support to the Celo Foundation by conducting collaborative hackathons, workshops, and events that focus on the convergence of Web3 and sustainability. The partnership intends to enhance the shared conviction of both teams that blockchain technology is proficient in tackling environmental issues.
Regarding the challenges faced by sustainability-oriented startups in the Celo Network, Cazador highlighted that complex interfaces, technical onboarding processes, and unfamiliar transaction fee currencies pose significant entry barriers for such startups in the Web3 sector. Nevertheless, Cazador pointed out that the collaboration between Celo and Google Cloud is designed to ease the burden on emerging and established projects, allowing ecosystem builders to confront the most pressing sustainability challenges of today and the future.
Proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus has enabled Celo, a blockchain platform, to achieve carbon neutrality. It has earned a reputation as a leader in regenerative finance (ReFi) within the Web3 community, a wide concept that promotes sustainability in finance. The platform features a wide variety of over a thousand projects in over 150 countries.
Rene Reinsberg, president of the Celo Foundation and co-founder of the Celo blockchain, discussed the ReFi movement and Celo’s aspirations to remain relevant in the world of several chains. Reinsberg stated that he views the growth of layer-1 blockchains and layer-2 networks as a chance to attract more individuals to the cryptocurrency market.
