On December 27, the Italian government published a list of 30 experts that are supposed to develop the country’s blockchain strategy. The Ministry of Economic Development published the list.
It boasts experts from various backgrounds including academic research, law, computer science, and business. The one thing that all of them have in common is knowledge and experience of the nascent technology.
Notable Names Occupy The List
There are a number of distinguished individuals on the list including Pimpinella Martino Maurizio who is the president of Italian Association of Paying Services Providers, Monaco Marco who is the leader of the blockchain competence center at PWC in Italy, Vitale Marco who is the president of Quadrans Foundation, a blockchain firm and Angiolini Giorgio who is a member of UN INFO’s blockchain group and the head of marketing at Italtel.
Plans to form the panel were first revealed in September of this year. The ministry at the time announced that its fundamental priority was to understand and address the issue of blockchain and the distributed ledger technology (DLT). Also, it desired to increase private and public investments in the area.
According to a statement released in September, the 30 man panel will work to identify the potential uses of the blockchain in the private and public sector. They will also work on developing the necessary technical and regulatory tools to promote the adoption of the tech.
The deputy prime minister of Italy, at the time, was quoted as saying:
“Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain are destined to radically change our lives, the society in which we live and the economic and productive fabric of the country. We have to decide which way to go.”
The naming of the panel is a step in the right direction for Italy. At the beginning of the month, the country signed a declaration along six other European nations with the aim of taking the lead on the DLT to transform its economy.
