The use of cryptocurrencies is expanding everywhere. There are several countries that have decided to allow virtual currencies to grow. Slovenia, a small European country located in the Alps is the home of a new shopping centre that is testing payment pilots with virtual currencies.
Shopping Centre in Slovenia Embraces Cryptos
Slovenia’s Capital, Ljubljana, will see a group of 150 individuals test virtual currencies across 24 different businesses in the BTC City Ljubljana. The place includes 500 different storefronts and include services related to clothing, electronics and restaurants.
The information has been release by the Slovenian TV channel known as 24 Ur on Monday the 11th. The shopping centre does not have any relationship with the cryptocurrency despite its similarity to Bitcoin. BTC is an abbreviation from Blagovno Transportni Center which opened in 1950.
During this year, the shopping centre was able to develop the project alongside with Eligma, an important startup in the region. It has created a payment system known as Elipay that allows users to send and receive payments using a mobile app.
The shopping centre wants to become one of the most important crypto hubs in the region and Europe. For the future, the goal is to establish a ‘Bitcoin city’ in Slovenia.
Prime Minister, Miro Cerar, attended in the morning to the crypto hub and bought a cup of coffee using cryptocurrencies. During this year, Mr. Cerar commented:
“The government is aware of Slovenia’s involvement in the global flows, and with our vision of modernization and digitization promotion in all areas, we ae bringing to the fore the introduction of new technologies. We thus recognize blockchain technology as an exceptional opportunity: in this respect, Slovenia is at the forefront and one of the most recognized blockchain destinations in Europe”
The intention is to transform Slovenia into a global or regional crypto hub. There are several companies that can help with the transitions towards a new country. And with the support of the Prime Minister it will be an easier task to accomplish in the future.
