Emirates Crypto Payments Now Live for Flight Bookings

Emirates crypto payments went live on July 28, 2026, when the airline confirmed that customers can now book flights using Crypto.com Pay directly through emirates.com and the Emirates App. The launch completes a Memorandum of Understanding signed with Crypto.com on July 9, 2025, reflecting what Emirates called the preferences of a phone-first generation of travelers. Emirates carried 55.6 million customers in 2025, according to its own year-end report, though the option reaches only a slice of that base for now.

The Launch Behind Emirates’ Crypto.com Pay Rollout

According to Emirates, the integration runs through Crypto.com’s Dubai entity, the first Virtual Asset Service Provider granted a Stored Value Facilities license by the Central Bank of the UAE.

Emirates signed the original MoU on July 9, 2025, in a ceremony attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the group’s chairman and chief executive, with Adnan Kazim signing for Emirates and Mohammed Al Hakim for Crypto.com. Emirates projected at the time that integration would take effect “next year,” a timeline the July 28, 2026 launch met almost exactly.

“Bringing this initiative to life delivers on our commitment to expanding customer choice,” said Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, in the airline’s launch announcement. Eric Anziani, Crypto.com’s president and chief operating officer, called the partnership a milestone for the company’s Pay feature and pointed to Dubai’s push toward fintech adoption.

Who Can Use Crypto.com Pay on Emirates

Crypto.com Pay is available only to eligible UAE residents booking fares priced and settled in Emirati dirham, Emirates said in its announcement. Because bookings settle in dirham rather than the cryptocurrency itself, Emirates never directly receives Bitcoin, Ether, or any other digital asset a customer pays with, and the rule excludes most of Emirates’ international customers for now.

The move follows a separate Dubai Finance arrangement letting residents pay taxes through Crypto.com, and adds to a run of crypto payment developments in our news coverage.

The 2026 Deadline Behind Dubai’s Cashless Push

Emirates says the launch supports the Dubai Cashless Strategy under the D33 Economic Agenda, which the airline states targets making 90% of government and private-sector transactions digital by the end of 2026. Emirates and Crypto.com also said, in their original MoU, that they would explore joint marketing campaigns to build awareness of the new payment option as adoption grows.

What This Means for You

If you hold crypto and travel through the UAE, this launch shows one way exchanges are bridging digital wallets into everyday checkout flows without merchants ever holding the coins themselves. For most readers outside the UAE, or those booking in a currency other than dirham, the option isn’t available yet. Watch whether other airlines or the Central Bank extend similar terms once Dubai’s 2026 digital-transaction target comes into view.
