ICE and tZERO Agree to Develop Infrastructure for Public Tokenized-Securities Markets

tZERO Group and Intercontinental Exchange announced a set of agreements on August 31, 2026 to build infrastructure supporting public tokenized securities markets, including ICE licensing tZERO’s blockchain patent portfolio.

The deal positions tZERO as a design partner for ICE’s upcoming NYSE-affiliated tokenized securities platform, called the Digital Trading Platform.

What the Agreement Actually Covers

The firms signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing tZERO’s role as a premier design partner in developing digital transfer agent and broker-dealer infrastructure meant to support on-chain settlement of tokenized securities transactions on ICE’s Digital Trading Platform, according to tZERO’s official announcement

ICE also agreed to invest in tZERO’s latest financing round, and as part of that investment will receive a license to tZERO’s blockchain patent portfolio for use on the Digital Trading Platform and other potential applications.

That patent portfolio spans 23 patent families and 103 patents covering elements of the security token lifecycle, including compliance-aware transfer logic, upgradeable smart contract frameworks, scalable corporate-action handling, and broker-dealer-level identity interoperability.

What Each Company Said About the Deal

Michael Blaugrund, ICE’s VP of Strategic Initiatives, said tZERO’s experience in regulated on-chain infrastructure makes it a valuable partner as ICE expands its digital transfer agent program supporting tokenized securities trading and settlement.

Under the MOU, ICE plans to consult with tZERO to establish standards for digital transfer agents, tokenization agents, and broker-dealer subscribers operating on the Digital Trading Platform.

Alan Konevsky, tZERO’s Chairman and CEO, said the company has spent years building an end-to-end regulated platform for tokenized securities and related intellectual property, calling the ICE partnership a natural extension of that infrastructure-as-a-service model into public equities.

What Comes Next for tZERO’s Role

Subject to meeting applicable regulatory, technology, and operational requirements, tZERO is expected to be designated as an approved digital transfer agent and subscriber to the Digital Trading Platform.

The two companies will also evaluate potential use of tZERO’s tokenized assets for collateral management purposes at ICE’s clearing houses and other affiliates.

For readers tracking how established financial infrastructure providers are building tokenized securities markets rather than starting from scratch, this partnership is worth following alongside broader crypto news, since ICE’s backing gives tZERO’s existing regulated infrastructure a direct path into public equity markets through the New York Stock Exchange’s parent company.

What this means for you: If you’re watching how tokenized securities move from pilot projects toward mainstream exchanges, this partnership shows one of the largest financial infrastructure companies in the world choosing to build on existing regulated blockchain technology rather than developing it independently, though the Digital Trading Platform itself is still upcoming rather than live.

This is not financial advice. This partnership involves securities offered through registered broker-dealers and is subject to regulatory approval, so review official disclosures from both companies before making any investment decision.
