During the “Avalon Bitcoin & Crypto Day” gathering in Singapore, renowned ASIC bitcoin mining hardware producer Canaan took the wraps off its latest Avalon 14 series mining devices. A standout in this lineup, the A1466I, impressively achieves an energy efficiency just shy of 20 joules per terahash (J/T), precisely registering 19.5 J/T. This powerhouse can churn out an impressive 170 terahash per second (TH/s).
Having hinted at these products in the prior month, Canaan formally introduced its Avalon series 14 machines. Among them, the A1466I shines with its sub-20 J/T energy efficiency metric, leveraging liquid cooling and delivering a robust SHA256 hashrate output of up to 170 TH/s.
Canaan’s showcase also spotlighted the two cooling methodologies that these rigs can employ: the immersive liquid-cooled mechanism and the traditional air-cooled system. The other model in the Avalon 14 series, A1466, employs air-cooling and commands a hashrate of 150 TH/s, maintaining an energy efficiency quotient of 21.5 J/T. Davis Hui, Canaan’s Vice President, presented these advancements, concurrently celebrating a decade of Canaan’s pioneering contributions to the mining world.
Historically, Avalon-branded mining rigs by Canaan hold the distinction of being the inaugural ASIC bitcoin miners to hit the public market back in January 2013. Although Canaan has stolen the limelight with a miner flaunting an efficiency figure below 20 J/T, its rival, Bitmain, is gearing up for a counter with its Antminer S21 series. Slated for unveiling at the 2023 World Digital Mining Summit (WDMS) in Hong Kong later this month, Bitmain asserts the S21 will sport an efficiency closely mirroring Canaan’s achievement.
