With the goal of attracting new Gen Z audiences, La Liga, the highest Spanish soccer league, announced that it will start working on the Decentraland metaverse. Thanks to a new partnership with StadioPlus, a technology firm, La Liga will start building its own project on Decentraland, getting involved for the first time in the metaverse.

La Liga Soccer League Works on Decentraland’s Metaverse

Decentraland’s Metaverse continues to expand, this time with La Liga, one of the most competitive and popular soccer leagues around the world. Thanks to a recent partnership between La Liga and StadioPlus, they will develop different land parcels on top of Decentraland in the famous city district called Vegas City.

Decentraland is one of the largest Metaverse projects in the cryptocurrency industry. Founded several years ago, Decentraland is among the top 100 largest cryptocurrencies (MANA) and it has offered users and companies the opportunity to acquire virtual Land and develop different unique Metaverse initiatives over the last few years.

It is also worth taking into consideration that MANA skyrocketed when Facebook announced it was changing its name to Meta. Decentraland is, nowadays, the largest virtual world in the cryptocurrency industry with its two currencies LAND and MANA.

La Liga will be working with StadioPlus in order to expand into the metaverse and create a unique experience for Gen Z users that would like to get access to virtual solutions.

Stephen Ibbotson, La Liga’s head of franchises and licensing explained that it is very important for La Liga to continue developing and innovating in different industries. On that matter, he stated:

“This licensing agreement will allow us to reach a new and significant audience like that of Decentraland.”

Meanwhile, StadioPlus chief executive said that the company is working in order to bridge the gap between the sports industry and the future through initiatives such as the one of the Metaverses (Decentraland).

Over the last few years, we have seen different crypto and blockchain-related initiatives take off in diverse industries. For example, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Decentralized Finance (DeFi) solutions became very popular in the crypto industry. They allowed for new projects to be developed and many companies paid attention to this trend.

For example, at UseTheBitcoin we reported that the Jewellery brand Tiffany & Co announced their project to sell customized CryptoPunk NFT pendants for 30 ETH. This was an exclusive project that aimed at attracting NFT holders and linking the physical industry with the virtual world through non-fungible tokens.

There are many other projects that have been developed in recent years thanks to this unique technology. It is just a matter of time before we see other solutions being developed on top of the Metaverse. La Liga is the first example of a soccer league developing new projects in these virtual worlds, but in the future, we could see exciting solutions being developed by other leagues and sports.

At the time of writing this article, Decentraland (MANA) is the 45th largest cryptocurrency in the market with a price per coin of $0.74 and a market capitalization of $1.33 billion.
