How to Buy Monero (XMR) After the Binance Delisting

Perhaps the most well-known and highly-regarded “privacy coin”, Monero has carved out a niche in the crypto market that has many excited. It exemplifies what crypto was originally designed for: freedom from censorship or outside control, with the ability to be transacted instantly and across borders.

Thus, Monero is one of the most private cryptocurrencies in the market. Users that want to protect their data and information could use XMR as a means of payment or to store their funds. Binance used to be one of the main places to buy it, but it delisted XMR on February 20, 2024. In this guide, we explain what changed and how you can still buy Monero coins.

Read ahead to find out how to buy Monero tokens on exchanges that still list them, and how you can use the Binance exchange to get the BTC or ETH you need to trade for XMR.

Binance no longer lists Monero (XMR), but you can buy the BTC or ETH you need on Binance and save 20% on all trading fees using this exclusive UTB link!

What is Monero?

Monero (known by the ticker symbol XMR), is a coin made for transactional use, expressly for private transactions. For coins such as Bitcoin, everything can be tracked on a public ledger, from transactions to wallet addresses. While this transparency is welcome in some circles, it’s a serious concern for others.

Monero addresses the privacy concern in crypto with several impressive features. This includes obfuscation of transaction amounts and destinations, and “stealth addresses”, which hide the true addresses of both sides of a transaction. As such, users can send and receive Monero without the worry of being traced.

On top of their privacy features, which are touted as the best in the market, Monero introduced Bulletproofs in October 2018, an update that drastically reduced the size of XMR transactions and the fees they incur. This means, privacy aside, Monero offers a cheaper and more efficient way for anyone to transact with crypto.

Monero in the Cryptocurrency Market

Monero is a cryptocurrency that has been in the market for several years now. From being worth just a few cents to reaching an all-time high of $797.73 per coin on January 14, 2026, the digital asset continues to attract a lot of capital from investors and users that want to protect their funds and privacy.

However, if you want to buy Monero, you should know that the virtual currency is very volatile. That means that its price could move a lot depending on the market situation. If you want to get access to XMR you should always consider that its price could fall by 90% or it could move higher also by several hundreds’ percent.

Binance removed all of its XMR trading pairs (XMR/BTC, XMR/ETH, XMR/BNB and XMR/USDT) on February 20, 2024, and stopped XMR withdrawals after May 20, 2024. OKX delisted XMR in January 2024, and Kraken stopped offering it in the European Economic Area in October 2024. Coinbase has never listed it. In the EU, new anti-money-laundering rules will stop crypto service providers from handling privacy coins such as XMR from July 2027.

The steps below still work, but on an exchange that lists XMR instead of Binance. In October 2026, CoinGecko showed active XMR markets on exchanges including KuCoin, Kraken, MEXC and Bitfinex. Which of them you can use depends on where you live, so check that the exchange serves your country and offers XMR there before you sign up.

Step 1: Register for an account on an exchange that lists XMR

As with many coins right now, buying Monero with credit or debit card, or through bank transfer, can be difficult. So for the purpose of this guide, we’ll show you how to buy XMR with Bitcoin or Ethereum.

The first step, if you haven’t already, is to open an account with an exchange that lists XMR in your country. The process is generally quick and easy, but each exchange limits which countries it serves.

Step 2: Verify your account

Before you can start trading, you’ll need to submit several verification documents to the exchange. Additionally, make sure to set up 2-Factor Authentication to protect your account.

Step 3: Send BTC or ETH to your exchange account

Once you’ve completed the verification steps, you’ll need BTC or ETH in your exchange wallet.

If you don’t hold either of these coins already, you can purchase either with credit or debit card on a site like Coinmama or Changelly, or on a fiat exchange like Coinbase.

To send coins to your exchange wallet, open the exchange’s deposit page and choose the coin you wish to send.

You’ll be shown a wallet address to send coins to. Make sure you send only the specified coin to this address (i.e. BTC to the BTC wallet, or ETH to the ETH wallet). Any other type of coin sent here may be lost.

Step 4: Wait for confirmation

Wait for the exchange to confirm your deposit. Transactions are often cleared very quickly, but depending on the network load, may take several hours.

Step 5: Find and select the BTC or ETH pair

When your deposit has been completed, open the exchange’s spot trading page.

Search for “XMR” and select the pair that matches the coin you deposited (for example XMR/BTC or XMR/ETH). The pairs on offer differ between exchanges.

Optional: Use the exchange’s advanced tools to buy at the right time

Most exchanges offer data such as real-time graphs and order history, to help you track a coin’s performance and buy at the best time.

The exchange will also let you set buy or sell limits. This means you can select a price (in BTC or ETH) at which you want to buy. Once the price hits that point, the exchange will automatically make your trade.

Step 6: Choose the amount of XMR to buy

Choose the price you want to buy XMR, or select “Market” to buy at the current price (this is fine for beginner/novice traders). Then enter the amount of XMR to buy. You can choose a specific amount of XMR, or 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the BTC/ETH coins in your exchange wallet.

Step 7: Buy Monero!

Hit the “Buy XMR” button, and once the exchange confirms your transaction, you’re done!

Step 8: Move your coins to a secure Monero wallet

The best practice in crypto is to keep your coins off an exchange when you’re not trading, in a secure wallet that you control. This way, you have total control over the security of your tokens, and you’re not trusting in the exchange’s security procedures.

To do so, you’ll need a wallet that supports Monero. For the highest level of security, a hardware wallet such as a Trezor (Model T, Safe 3 or Safe 5) or a Ledger Nano S (the Nano S Plus and Nano X also work) is recommended. Alternatives from the XMR dev community include the GUI Wallet for Desktop, or mobile wallets such as Cake Wallet and Monerujo. The MyMonero online wallet shut down on January 6, 2026.

Once you have an XMR wallet set up and ready, you can withdraw your coins from the exchange. Do this from the exchange’s withdrawal page.

Select XMR from the dropdown menu.

Add the address from your Monero wallet, and the amount of Monero you wish to withdraw. Double check the address is correct, then hit “Submit”. Check for confirmation that your transaction has been completed successfully.

…and that’s it! That’s all you need to know to buy Monero (XMR) now that it is no longer on Binance.

Remember that you should always withdraw your funds to a wallet for which you hold your private keys. By doing so, you will have full control over your funds and you would not need other platforms to hold the funds on your behalf.

Other Exchanges

Binance was the most popular exchange to buy Monero until it delisted XMR in 2024, but other platforms still let you get access to this virtual currency. Everything depends on the region you are and which are the services you require from a cryptocurrency exchange.

KuCoin and Kraken still list XMR, although Kraken does not offer it in the European Economic Area. Coinbase has never listed Monero. If you would rather not use a centralized exchange, non-custodial wallets such as Cake Wallet have a built-in exchange that swaps BTC, ETH, USDT and other coins for XMR. Peer-to-peer networks built on Haveno let you trade XMR directly with other people for fiat currency or crypto. LocalMonero, once a popular peer-to-peer marketplace for XMR, closed in 2024.

Binance no longer lists Monero (XMR), but you can use Binance to buy the BTC or ETH for the steps above, and you can even save 20% on all trading fees by signing up here.
