With this new upgrade, it would be possible for developers to add their favorite virtual currencies. Although there are many assets supporter, not all the tokens in the market have been added.
The company wrote on the matter:
“The upgrades included in this update will provide more possibilities for third party developers to bring support for their favourite crypto asset by adding several specific cryptographic algorithms which were previously missing.”
One of the most interesting things is that the upgrade will include new derivation schemes. This is related to Bip32-ed25519 enabling Cardano support and new Tezos derivation paths. Furthermore, there will be major improvements in security. Ledger informs that the Donjon security team has been attacking the Ledger Nano S evaluating its software stack.
Ledger has redesigned the arithmetic architecture, improved MCU genuine check, and it has improved the PIN code implementation. This would allow users to be protected against the hardest attacks ever. Moreover, the 1.5 firmware has been fully evaluated against the CSPN certification (First Level Security Certification). This is a certification issued by ANSSI, the French National Security Agency.
Although this has not yet been announced, the company will be releasing the necessary information as soon as the CSPN certification of the Ledger Nano S is issued by the agency.
