Richard Sherman and Marshawn Lynch, two NFL stars, have joined the Fan-Controlled Football League (FCFL). The two join as team owners in a football league that is powered by cryptocurrencies. Both will also serve as captains of their respective teams when the inaugural season kicks off in June 2019.

Currently, Sherman is a defensive back for the San Francisco 49ers, and Lynch is a running back for the Oakland Raiders. They won the Superbowl together in 2013 playing for the Seattle Seahawks.

Blockchain Football League

The Fan-Controlled Football League (FCFL) is a real-world sport that is based on the blockchain. The league allows fans to make all the decisions from hiring coaches, calling plays in real time, drafting players, designing logos and naming the teams.

In September of 2018, Joe Montana, a venture capitalist and an NFL Hall of Famer joined the blockchain based football league as an investor and chief strategic adviser.

The league managed to raise $5.2 million in December of 2017 through an initial coin offering using the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform. However, in August of this year, MicroVentures quietly cancelled the ICO and refunded the investors their money citing regulatory concerns.

MicroVentures is the broker that takes care of Indigogo’s ICO fundraisers.

Later on, the FCFL in a blog post said that it had decided to delay its ICO until a fully functional platform had been launched to demonstrate to the regulators that its crypto tokens had utility and they were not speculative investments.

“After many, many hours spent with our legal counsel and advisors, we decided that the best course of action was to delay our Fan Token generation event until the launch of a fully completed FCFL platform with which the Fan Tokens can interact with a utility function.”

The league’s games will be played in a high tech production studio. One that will be equipped with sensors, drones, and wearables with a sitting capacity for 1,000 fans. The games will also be streamed in real time through Twitch, a live video streaming platform that is owned by Amazon.
