Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said that although artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing rapidly, it still has a long way to go before it can be considered a substitute for human programmers. He expects AI will keep improving and the errors and bugs will be eliminated as he takes a spin on ChatGPT.

Vitalik Buterin Comments On ChatGPT’s Capabilities

In a blog post, Vitalik Buterin enumerated the GPT chatbot’s capabilities like writing song lyrics, acting as a language-learning buddy, and coming up with convincing-sounding arguments for arbitrary political opinions. Buterin particularly emphasized that it’s gaining excitement due to the possibility of using a chatbot to write code. However, Buterin stated that for the foreseeable future, AI will not be able to take over human programmers.

Buterin believes that chatbots can be useful in some situations, for example, writing code for common tasks. Emphasizing that ChatGPT worked well as a programming aid but it also has some flaws and made a ton of mistakes. There’s a possible chance that incorrect code can be provided so it’s important for developers to be careful.

On the other hand, he acknowledged that ChatGPT introduced him to some coding patterns he had not seen before, and it wrote the base converter faster than he would have on his own. Developers often use StackOverflow to manually look up ready-to-use code, but that can be a time-consuming process.

Rooter, the founder of Solana-based lending protocol Solend, told The Block that other blockchain developers agree with Buterin’s conclusion and he believes that it will certainly be helpful in reducing the amount of time spent searching StackOverflow. Although, Rooter warned against the authenticity of code if used in blockchain apps. The code behind blockchain technology cannot be changed once it is in production thus it is crucial for the developers to be prudent.

ChatGPT: AI chatbot developed by OpenAI

ChatGPT is a prototype chatbot capable of understanding natural human language and producing surprisingly human-like written text. The latest chatbot is from the Elon Musk-founded independent research body OpenAI. In a blog post, it stated that ChatGPT makes it possible to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.

ChatGPT also mentioned its limitations and iterative deployment including substantial reductions in harmful and untruthful outputs achieved by the use of reinforcement learning from human feedback.
