The blockchain-based web browser Brave announced the launch of a new feature that would allow Twitter users to tip each other. The information was announced on August first by Brave in a blog post. Users will be able to donate Basic Attention Token (BAT) to tweets they consider valuable.
Brave To Allow Users Tip On Twitter
Brave is now allowing users to tip individual content creators on Twitter with the Basic Attention Token. Using the Brave desktop browser users will see a new “Tip” button on each of the tweets. The new feature would be available only if they have the Brave Rewards activated.
When a person tips a tweet, the creator will receive the funds on his Brave account. In order to gather the funds, the creator will have to activate his account on Brave and link it with his uphold wallet.
The press release reads as follows:
“Today we’re announcing that Brave users can tip individual content creators on Twitter with Basic Attention Token (BAT). When users visit Twitter with the Brave desktop browser and have enabled Brave Rewards, they will see a new “Tip” button on each tweet.”
Users that want to tip others can do so with the funds they purchased or with the rewards received though the campaigns on Brave Ads. Brave is also going to be allocating 100,000 BAT grants. These BAT tokens are going to be distributed in regions that are not receiving Brave Ads. Users will be notified when they have a new donation.
Users will also have the possibility to send recurring tips allowing the creator to be able to be recompensated for his contribution to the community. The tips are sent immediately by Brave and can be visible for users that receive them in their Brave Rewards account in just a few minutes.
At the same time, those that send a tip to a user can just Tweet that they have sent this tip, allowing the receiver user to know they have received funds.
The Brave Web Browser was created in order to protect users’ privacy from intrusive ads and companies that want to gather as much data as possible from individuals. The Basic Attention Token was created to give rewards to users that share their data with companies that want to publish content and advertise their products and services.
At the time of writing this article, BAT is the 32nd largest digital currency in the market. It has a price per coin of $0.235 and a market valuation of $300 million.
