The Japanese multinational technology and services company has announced the opening of its first international Blockchain Innovation Centre in Brussels. The centre will be in charge of exploring blockchain’s potential applications in different fields.
Fujitsu’s International Blockchain Innovation Centre
According to a press release published on March the 21st, the Japanese company has inaugurated its international Blockchain Innovation Centre in Belgium. As the article says, the centre underscores Fujitsu’s commitment to blockchain technology as a means to improve products and services.
Blockchain technology is mainly seen as a financial instrument, but it can be used in many other fields. This is what the Blockchain Innovation Centre will try to do. By collaborating with external partners the centre will be undertake research activities with external partners and will collaborate on specific projects to explore the technology’s potential.
The statement reads as follows:
“With growing interest from customers in better understanding blockchain technology and its impact on business, Fujitsu aims to develop blockchain beyond financial services – where it has already created widespread disruption to business models – as a new architecture for information systems and sectors of all kinds.”
Yves de Beauregard, Head of Fujitsu Benelux, explains that the company has experienced an important interest from its customers in order to better understand how blockchain technology can improve businesses.
Mr Yves de Beauregard explains:
“The underlying principle of blockchain is that transactions are virtually impossible to alter, creating a high level of trust. This is just the beginning, as we intend to explore the wider potential use of blockchain in a variety of commercial areas.”
The good news is that Belgium seems to approve these innovative developments. Kris Peeters, Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium commented that Belgium’s economy is driven by innovation and it is the ideal place to build these centres such as the one Fujitsu built.
