Binance UK License Move Could Restore UK Access by 2027

Binance is reportedly planning to apply for a UK operating license under the country’s new digital asset framework, in a move that could restore access for British users as early as 2027. The application window opens in September and closes on February 28, 2027, ahead of the regulatory regime’s October 25, 2027 start date. A successful bid would end a five-year freeze on Binance’s regulated UK operations.

Binance’s Five-Year Freeze With UK Regulators

The freeze traces back to June 2021, when the FCA blocked Binance Markets Limited, the exchange’s UK arm, from carrying out regulated activities in the country. As a result, Binance’s current UK footprint has remained limited, and the exchange has not said whether a relaunch would restore services in stages or all at once.

Binance later stopped signing up new UK customers in 2023, after the FCA introduced stricter marketing rules for crypto firms, extending a freeze that has now lasted five years.

The new framework requires applicants to keep a physical UK presence and meet governance standards before serving customers. Binance is expected to set up a local board of directors as part of its filing.

What This Means for UK Crypto Users

For British residents locked out of Binance since 2023, the FCA’s new framework marks the clearest path back to the exchange in years, though nothing is guaranteed until a filing is submitted and approved.

A relaunch would also give BNB, Binance’s native token, renewed use in a market largely closed to it. The UK bid fits a broader pattern of Binance expanding into new regulated territory, a step it also took when it entered prediction markets. The FCA Deadline That Decides Binance’s Return

David Geale, the FCA’s executive director of payments and digital finance, has said the new regime will hold crypto firms to standards similar to other UK financial companies, a signal that oversight will be tighter than the lighter registration system it replaces.

Binance has until February 28, 2027, to file, and the regime itself doesn’t take effect until October 25, 2027, so any relaunch would land toward the end of that year at the earliest.

What this means for you: If you’ve been waiting to trade on Binance from the UK, the exchange has until February 28, 2027, to file; the new rules don’t start until October 25, 2027, and access returns only if the FCA approves the license in between.
