Coinbase, a prominent player in the cryptocurrency exchange market, has introduced a significant update to its wallet service, simplifying international money transfers. This new feature aims to make transferring funds as easy as sending a simple text message.
Coinbase (listed on Nasdaq as COIN) has rolled out a wallet feature that significantly enhances the ease of global fund transfers. This innovative functionality allows users to transfer money using a variety of channels, including popular messaging and social media applications, by just sharing a link.
The announcement made on Tuesday highlights that this feature bypasses the complexities of traditional banking details and costly wire transactions. It enables immediate settlements without any fees. The service is compatible with various platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Telegram, Snapchat, and even email, essentially working on any platform where a link can be shared.
Coinbase assures users of the security of this feature, stating that if the funds sent through the link are not claimed within two weeks, they automatically return to the sender. This approach places Coinbase’s new payment method on par with the link-based transaction services offered by major payment companies like PayPal and Stripe.
PayPal, for instance, offers link-based transactions through a feature known as Paypal.me. This service allows users to create personalized links to receive payments directly into their PayPal accounts, including crypto payments with the select digital assets that PayPal supports.
To cater to a diverse range of users, from beginners to experienced cryptocurrency enthusiasts, Coinbase has also introduced a ‘simple mode’ in its non-custodial wallet. This mode focuses on fundamental functionalities like buying, sending, receiving, and securely holding digital currencies, streamlining the user experience in cryptocurrency transactions.
