Since that day, virtual currencies have expanded all over the world, and many different enterprises are accepting them as a means of payment. The price of Bitcoin has also increased exponentially during the last years and financial institutions are also looking into adding support to virtual currencies.
The blog post reads as follows:
“Pizza Day is a maker of just how far and how quickly the crypto asset space has developed. Since that first transaction, digital currencies have become accepted across a wide variety of mainstream outlets. Some have increased substantially in value, and digital assets such as cryptocurrencies are now attracting the interest of major institutional investors.”
At the same time, the Ledger team was able to talk with Laszlo Hanyecz, who bought two pizzas for 10,000 BTC – at that time, this was worth $41 dollars, today that would be $84 million dollars. He said that he is very surprised about something that in the past was a hobby and that now is being used in so many different places.
“Bitcoin was just a fun hobby project for me 8 years ago. When I paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas I had no idea that Bitcoin would eventually become as popular as it is today, with people using it for real world transactions every day,” he said. “One of the challenges to mainstream adoption is the learning curve involved in understanding how to store and use Bitcoin securely and this Limited Edition ledger device is a great way to get started safely.”
At the moment, the price of this device is 142.8 € and can be bought via the official Ledger Wallet site.
