Mick Mulvaney, BTC Proponent, In As White House Chief of Staff

At the moment, Mick Mulvaney is the director of the US Office of Management and Budget. He has several times been in favour of virtual currencies and blockchain technology. He will be working in this position at the end of the year. Before him, John F. Kelly was working as the Chief of Staff at the White House.

Donald Trump wrote about it on Twitter:

“I am pleased to announce that Mick Mulvaney, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, will be named Acting White House Chief of Staff, replacing General John Kelly, who has served our Country with distinction. Mick has done an outstanding job while in the administration.”

CNN informed that Mulvaney will not be resigning as director of the Office of Management and Budget. In a statement, Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary said that Russ Vought will be handling day-to-day operations for the office.

Mulvaney is a conservative former South Carolina congressman. In just two years, he will be the third chief of staff to take the responsibility to manage the White House staff. He is also a blockchain and Bitcoin proponent that spearhead the Blockchain Caucus. The Blockchain Caucus works in order to create policies around blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

In the past, Mulvaney commented about distributed ledger technology:

“Blockchain technology has the potential to revolutionize the financial services industry, the U.S. economy and the delivery of government services, and I am proud to be involved with this initiative.”

Virtual currencies and blockchain technology must be regulated. Companies need a clear regulatory framework where to operate. Cryptocurrencies should also be defined by the law and by regulatory agencies. Some countries such as Japan are trying to provide clearer rules about virtual currencies and blockchain technology.
