At Philippine Blockchain Week 2025 in Manila, UseTheBitcoin had the privilege of interviewing Ian Flores, who is the Tech Lead and Senior Developer of DTaka, a blockchain-powered e-wallet launched by D-Wallet Technologies Corp.

Recently introduced on Huawei’s AppGallery in late January 2025, DTaka is redefining digital payments in the Philippines with its focus on financial inclusion, seamless transactions, and innovative use of blockchain technology to empower users, especially overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.

That said, Flores shares insights into DTaka’s vision and how it aims to transform the fintech landscape with secure, low-cost solutions.

UTB: Can you tell us more about DTaka?

Ian: DTaka, in general, is a blockchain-powered wallet designed to securely handle digital transactions. All transactions are recorded on the blockchain, ensuring transparency and security. The wallet supports cryptocurrency transfers and also allows fiat currency to be converted into tokens and vice versa.

UTB: How does DTaka’s e-wallet differentiate itself from competitors in terms of user experience, security, or blockchain integration?

Ian: The vision of DTaka in the future is to make cryptocurrency usable in our everyday lives. So, for example, if you have 10 USDT or just small amounts of tokens, you can directly use them to pay to other e-wallet platforms, pharmacy stores, convenience stores, and ride-hailing apps.

So, DTaka makes payments easier for users, even with small amounts, to cater to smaller markets as well.

UTB: What strategies is DTaka using to onboard new users, especially those new to crypto, given the complexity often cited as a barrier to adoption?

Ian: Use case—how can DTaka be part of our daily lives? That’s really the core of what we are building. We want to make onboarding easy and intuitive for new users, showing them practical ways to use DTaka every day. Ultimately, the goal is to deliver real value through cryptocurrency, making it accessible and meaningful in everyday situations.

UTB: What’s next for DTaka’s e-wallet—any upcoming features or programs?

Ian: Right now, we offer remittance and payment functions. There’s a live demo at the back of our booth where you can see how it works—you can directly send payments to someone’s GCash account using your token. For example, if you have funds on any crypto exchange, you can transfer them to DTaka and instantly convert them for the recipient in Peso format.

DTaka is now available on the Huawei AppGallery. We are also in the process of launching on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
