Bitwise’s proposed NEAR ETF has cleared key regulatory and exchange-listing steps, bringing the fund closer to trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker NRR.
The fund’s registration statement became effective on September 24, while a related SEC filing confirmed that NYSE Arca had approved the application to list its shares. The ETF is designed to hold NEAR directly and generate additional returns through staking.
The developments have also coincided with a sharp move in NEAR’s market price. The token reached a one-year high near $5 after gaining more than 7% in a day, according to recent market reports.
Bitwise NEAR ETF Moves Toward Trading
Bitwise’s ETF will give investors exposure to NEAR through a traditional exchange-traded product, rather than requiring them to buy and hold the cryptocurrency directly.
The fund will trade under the proposed NRR ticker on NYSE Arca. Its primary objective is to track the value of the NEAR tokens held by the trust, with staking as a secondary source of additional NEAR.
The SEC’s Form 8-A states that NYSE Arca approved an application to list the fund’s shares. This registration allows the ETF’s shares to trade on an exchange.

ETF Will Stake NEAR Holdings
One feature that separates the fund from a simple spot-holding structure is its plan to stake NEAR.
The ETF’s prospectus says the trust intends to stake some or all of its NEAR holdings under normal conditions. The staking is designed to generate additional NEAR for the fund, with staking-related costs deducted from the rewards.
The fund’s annual sponsor fee is set at 0.75%. Coinbase Custody will safeguard the NEAR held by the trust, while BNY Mellon will provide cash custody and administrative services.
This structure gives investors exposure to both NEAR’s market price and the staking activity generated by the fund, subject to the fund’s fees, expenses, and staking arrangements.
NEAR Price Rises as ETF Nears Launch
NEAR has moved sharply higher as the ETF progressed through its final registration and listing steps.
Recent reports put NEAR near $5, with the token reaching its highest level in about a year. It gained more than 7% over 24 hours and substantially outpaced Bitcoin over the same period.
Another report said NEAR had gained roughly 50% over the previous week. The move came as the ETF moved closer to trading and as market attention increased around institutional access to the asset.
The price movement does not establish that the ETF will generate a specific level of demand or that the rally will continue. Actual trading activity and fund inflows will only become clear after the product begins trading.
What the SEC Filing Actually Confirms
The latest SEC filing is important because it clarifies the status of the ETF. The Form 8-A registers the fund’s common shares under Section 12(b) of the Securities Exchange Act.
It identifies NYSE Arca as the exchange where the shares are to be registered and states that the listing application has been approved.
However, this should not be described as the SEC approving NEAR as an investment or endorsing the cryptocurrency. The filing establishes the ETF shares’ registration and exchange-listing status.
The fund still needs to begin actual trading before investors can buy and sell NRR shares on the exchange.
What Comes Next
The next step is launching the Bitwise NEAR ETF on NYSE Arca. Recent reports have pointed to a possible September 29 start, although the actual first trading date depends on the remaining launch process.
Once trading begins, investors will be able to see how much demand the ETF attracts and whether the staking feature contributes meaningful additional NEAR to the fund.
The launch would also give NEAR another route into traditional brokerage accounts, allowing investors to gain exposure through an exchange-traded product instead of holding the token directly.
What This Means for You: The Bitwise NEAR ETF has cleared its SEC registration and NYSE Arca listing steps, but those developments are separate from the ETF actually beginning to trade. If NRR launches as expected, investors will have another way to gain NEAR exposure through a traditional brokerage account, while the fund’s staking feature could provide additional NEAR subject to fees and expenses.
