Strategy Bitcoin Treasury Sells $333.7M in Shares

Strategy’s Bitcoin treasury business raised $333.7 million in net proceeds from a common stock sale between August 10 and August 16, according to a filing made public this week.

The company sold 3,458,866 shares of its Class A common stock and used part of the proceeds to push its US dollar reserve to $4.80 billion as of August 16. Strategy made no Bitcoin purchases or sales during the same period, leaving its holdings unchanged at 840,447 BTC.

Where the $333.7 Million Went

Strategy split the proceeds three ways, according to an SEC Form 8-K filing published Monday, August 17. The company directed $149.1 million into its USD Reserve, used $132.2 million to repurchase 1,388,720 shares of its STRC preferred stock, and applied $52.4 million toward STRC’s dividend obligations.

The repurchase brought Strategy’s remaining authorization under its preferred stock buyback program down to roughly $653 million.

Strategy’s Bitcoin position stayed flat this week. The company still holds 840,447 BTC, acquired for a total of $63.36 billion at an average price of $75,385 per coin. That average sits well above Bitcoin’s current market price, a gap that has shaped much of the company’s recent decisions around when to sell equity instead of BTC.

Why This Matters If You Hold MSTR or Watch Strategy’s Bitcoin Stack

CEO Phong Le told Fox Business earlier this month that Strategy has bought roughly 25 times more Bitcoin than it has sold since the start of 2026, a claim detailed in our coverage of Strategy CEO Phong Le’s comments on resuming Bitcoin buying. This week’s filing keeps that pattern intact, showing zero Bitcoin activity alongside a fourth straight week of MSTR share sales.

The STRC Par Signal That Could Restart Bitcoin Buying

Le has said Strategy will resume larger Bitcoin purchases once its STRC preferred stock trades back at its $100 par value. STRC was trading at $95.32 as of Le’s most recent comments, leaving a narrow gap that the company appears to be closing through this week’s buyback rather than fresh capital.

If STRC keeps climbing toward par over the next few weeks, that would be the clearest signal yet that Strategy is nearing the point where it starts adding Bitcoin again instead of raising cash against it.

What this means for you: Strategy is using stock sales, not its Bitcoin, to cover cash needs this week, and the company has said Bitcoin buying resumes once its preferred stock climbs back to full value.
